ECU Tuning FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions Diesel ECU Tuning

Will a tune void my warranty?

If the vehicle is still under manufacturer warranty, a remap can void it if the dealer can prove the modification caused the issue they are being asked to fix. In practice, dealers check for remaps using their diagnostic tools. If warranty coverage is important to you, we can discuss timing and options before proceeding.

Is it safe for my engine?

A properly calibrated Stage 1 remap stays well within the mechanical limits of your engine and drivetrain. The OEM tune leaves significant headroom by design a Stage 1 remap uses some of that headroom, not all of it. We do not push hardware beyond what it is rated for.

What power gains can I expect?

On a typical 2.0 TDI Stage 1: 2040hp and 5080Nm depending on the variant. On a 3.0 TDI Stage 1: 4060hp and 80120Nm. Numbers vary by specific engine code and the condition of your hardware.

Do I need any hardware upgrades first?

For Stage 1 no. Stage 1 is designed around stock hardware. If you are looking at Stage 2 or beyond, an intercooler, uprated fuelling, or injector upgrades may be required depending on the platform.

Will my fuel economy change?

At light throttle, fuel economy typically stays the same or improves slightly because the engine reaches its target output more efficiently. If you are using the extra performance heavily, economy will drop. Drive it the same way you did before and the numbers will be similar or better.

How long does the remap take?

The flash itself takes under 15 minutes. Allow 12 hours for the full visit including check-in and a road test. Mail-in ECU service turnaround is typically 25 business days depending on current volume.

Can it be reversed?

Yes. We retain your original ECU file and can return the car to factory spec at any time.

Will it affect my DPF or emissions systems?

A Stage 1 tune calibrates the fuelling and boost it does not delete or bypass emissions hardware unless you specifically request a delete service. Your DPF, EGR, and SCR systems remain fully operational on a standard Stage 1.

My car has high mileage can it still be tuned?

Yes, but condition matters more than mileage. We will assess your car before tuning. Common things that should be addressed first: worn injectors, a partially blocked DPF, a sticky EGR, or a turbo with play in the shaft. A tune on a car with pre-existing faults will amplify those faults, not fix them.

What if I have a problem after the tune?

Contact us. We will diagnose remotely where possible and get you back in if needed. If the car develops a fault unrelated to the tune, we will tell you that too. Our goal is a car that runs better than it did before if something is not right, we want to know.

Do you tune automatics?

Yes. We can also include a TCU (transmission control unit) tune on applicable vehicles, which improves shift points and shift firmness to match the increased engine output. This is available as an add-on.

How do I know which tune is right for my car?

Use our vehicle lookup tool or contact us directly with your year, make, model, and engine code. We will confirm exactly what is available and what the process looks like for your specific car.
